BPC Takes on Milton | Hall wins in LA
While the weather said otherwise, we braved the storm, and drove through the night to find our cozy little house in Brampton. BPC Athletes Danielle Shumskas, Homare Yamashita, and Nao Yamashita, with dad Tony Shumskas in tow, arrived safely, ready to take on a new challenge of riding the Mattamy National Cycling Centre. No athlete had ever ridden the track before, and Danielle Shumskas had never set foot on a 250m velodrome, but none-the-less, they attacked it in true BPC fashion, leaving nothing to chance.
Homare and Danielle entered the category C junior field, and made their presence known. After much deliberation with the officials regarding roll out and gearing, it was evident much is left to speculation. Thinking on our feet, and using all hands on deck, we got the juniors out on that track, as a Danielle rolled around for the very first time on a 250, she looked like a seasoned pro. They didn’t even let her take a few practice laps, she was straight in, no experience, boom. Pro-status.
Nao kept up to his nickname, “Zamboni”, by cleaning the track on his first go-around. He got right back up during that neutral lap, got back in the saddle, and straight into the points race he went. He took 2nd in that points race! Not too shabby! Fresh in from the race, Homare got out his self-brought spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide. The man arrives his own first aid kit, now!
We were immensely proud of these athletes. Tackling new challenges with every ounce of bravery we could ask for. Mixing it up with junior boys and girls, new faces, and new events. Getting up from defeat, pulling it together through disappointment. Learning to lose, before we can win.
As we battled the 7+ hour drive home, we see Marvin Hall taking our second victory of 2018, in the Ontario Crit! If that isn’t a good start to the season, we don’t know what is. Your hard work is paying off! We’ve got some exciting things coming our way this year, and we can’t wait to see them unfold.
In other news, the BPC kit order has gone through, and we will anxiously wait the arrival of them. We’re proud to have you guys flying in our colors, and can’t wait to see them in action.
